Road Safety

Road Safety - Public Art Display - NMIT VCAL 2011
Road Safety is a critical subject for young people to explore and come to terms with as it includes themes and issues surrounding youth culture, male ego, hooning and alcohol and drug abuse. It is also the biggest killer of young people in Australia.
For this project I designed a range of discussions and in response to these discussions a range of art was created including a public art display to provoke thought about the attitudes surrounding risky driving and the ripple effect that road accidents have amongst families and communities of people.
The public art display comprised of an anti-memorial and life-sized paste-ups of youth facetiously stating on their t-shirts that, "I'm a better driver when I'm drunk". Other outcomes of the project included a presentation to other young people and a mock beer coaster with a puzzle challenging the drinker with a waring.
Unfortunately, due to student safety reasons, we were unable to carry out the public exhibition in the local mall where we initially planned to setup the artworks but rather was carried out on the NMIT West Heidelberg premises.
