Critical Thinking for Youth
Critical Thinking - Photo based art and multimedia exhibition - CAE VCAL 2009
Critical thinking for Youth was a series of small projects that used participatory photography to stimulate thinking and reasoning whilst also creating photo art as a final comment to the ideas they had explored and discovered about themselves.
The project was inspired by Paulo Freire's book Education for Critical Consciousness, where he establishes a method of education to develop critical awareness and often used photography to stimulate dialogic communication.
ABOVE: New Perspective: Each student wrote a story about a day they had made a mistake and then wrote the moral to the story onto a large card. They photographed, printed, then re-photographed the image of themselves in the same location recreating the old perspective in the new image.
BELOW: Context is Critical: One film was created and then edited two different ways with different music showing the difference of context.
