Life Skills - Photo-based art and multimedia - NMIT, CAE & Diamond Valley VCAL 2008-2009

Over a two year period I designed and taught a variety of participatory photo-based projects that explored the importance of life skills including social, communication, decision making, goal achievement, teamwork and problem solving skills.

According to UNICEF, these skills are necessary to help empower people to deal with challenging situations and that ‘which support the adoption of healthy behaviors’.

The projects included a vast range of stop-still animations, short films, photo-stories, trick photography, paste-ups, key-framing and culminated in a range of outcomes including projections, presentations and exhibitions.

ABOVE: Split-pin characters were made in conjunction with learning about social skills. These characters were then animated with text attached expressing how they respond in complex social situations.

BELOW: Mixed Message was a project where students wrote down a list of situations that caused them stress. A poem or statement was then created along with photos they superimposed in Photoshop.
